The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation has signed a funding agreement with the China Environmental Protection Foundation. - 08/12/2017

On 8th November 2017, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation signed a funding agreement with the China Environmental Protection Foundation.

The document was signed by HE Mr Bernard Fautrier Vice-President of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and Mr Fu Wenjuan, President of the China Environmental Protection Foundation.

The agreement has been entered into following the signing in August 2015 of a framework agreement between the two entities which provides for the implementation of common projects.

The purpose of the agreement is for the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation to provide funding for a project entitled “Cyanobacterial blooms in Lake Taihu”.

The project will carry out an in-depth study on Lake Taihu in China, regarding the formation of cyanobacteria (bacteria which caused the Great Oxygenation Event 2.4 billion years ago, making the evolution of living beings possible) forming “algal blooms”. As this phenomenon provides precious information with regard to water pollution, an information platform open to the public will be subsequently created which will provide an educational tool and also a working basis for scientists.

The project will conclude at the end of December 2017 with the submission of an investigation report on the lake’s level of pollution.
